Keyways Vineyard and Winery, the FIRST woman owned and managed winery in Temecula, and one of the few in California, will support the WBCC by donating a portion of the sales from a new line of wines for women.

The partnership has already begun to pave the way for the WBCC to provide much-needed services in the Temecula area.

The wines will be available for a complementary tasting at the WBCC Expo on Tuesday, September 18.

Terri Lee Pebley has never been satisfied with the status quo.  The math major turned CPA and attorney owns a successful real estate business. After acquiring Keyways Vineyard & Winery about two years ago, she’s also the only female winery owner in Temecula Valley.

Wherever Terri has set her sights, she’s made a difference.

She recently completed a dramatic $1.5  million makeover of the winery and tasting room that has transformed Keyways into a comfortable and entertaining place for wine lovers to gather in what she calls the “Romantic Side” of Temecula’s Wine Country. Far from the bustle and limousines of

Rancho California Road, Keyways on 37338 DePortola Road is making its mark with a penchant for service, special events, quality wines and an intimate and comfortable tasting room.

“I’ve always enjoyed taking on new challenges,” explains Pebley, 53. “With the winery and vineyard I’m involved in farming, manufacturing, wholesale distribution and event planning – there’s never a dull moment.”

She’s particularly proud of the new line of wines she’s creating for women with the help of Winemaker Michael Tingley. With women making 80 percent of the wine-buying decisions, Pebley thought it was time to make a wine that appeals to the female palate.

Labels on the wine will be come from the original artwork of Jessel Miller, a Napa artist whose paintings grace the walls of Keyways’ art gallery.

In addition to bringing art to Wine Country, Pebley is the first to offer theatrical productions.

In the first performance of its kind, Keyways Vineyard & Winery hosted the inaugural production of Midsummer Night’s Dream put on by Shakespeare in the Vines, a Temecula-based theater group.

“What better way to enjoy one of the Bard’s most popular comedies than under the stars in a hillside setting in a working winery?” Terri asks.

It doesn’t get any more romantic than that!!!

First Crush: A Wine Made by Women, for Women

Today women purchase and consume about 60 percent of the wine in the United States.  Studies show that women view wine differently than men. Often it is to be shared with family and friends to create a memory or emotional moment.

Women are not necessarily swayed by wine ratings  -- they are more likely to judge the entire product. Although wine quality is important, so are the label design, the bottle shape and the philosophy of the winery.

That is why Keyways Vineyard & Winery, the first woman-owned winery in Temecula, has released First Crush 2006 Rosé of Syrah ($19). It is a wine made by women, for women.

It is the first in a line of Femina Vita (Life of a Woman) wines whose labels feature the original artwork of Jessel Miller of Napa Valley.

This sophisticated rosé has more of an off-dry taste  with just a hint of berry-like sweetness.  A long fermentation process resulted in an enhanced fruit profile as well as a more complex wine that is not only a wonderful aperitif, but also a delicious complement to a wide variety of foods.

The fact that the first release in the Femina Vita line is a rosé also plays to another evolution taking place in the wine business. Rosé is no longer the sweet bubblegum wine of the 1970s but a serious sought-after wine that has caught the eye and palates of winemakers and consumers alike.

Femina Vita Festival
The launch of the new line of wines for women and the partnership
with the WBCC was kicked off on July 21 - 22 at Keways' Femina
Vita Festival at the winery.  The festival included more than 30
female artisans and exhibitors, food, wine tasting, and raffle prizes.
Over 1,000 visitors attended the festival over the weekend.

“Just as it is time to recognize the contribution of women in the wine business, it’s important to note the emergence of pink wines in all their rose-hued glory,” said Terri Pebley, Keyways owner.

Keyways and winemaker Mike Tingley also are developing a reputation for creating award-winning wines. Since the beginning of the year, Keyways has won eight medals at wine completions, including a gold medal for its 2004 Merlot ($24).
